Cure For Snore: Non-Surgical Management of Sleep Apnea

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Sleep disorder breathing is characterized by repetitive upper airway obstruction and consequent oxyhaemoglobin desaturation during the deeper stages of sleep. The disorder is due to combination of both abnormal upper airway anatomy and yet to be determined afferent/efferent somatosensory loop. Apnea is defined as a cessation of airflow (breathing) lasting for at least 10 seconds. Hypo-apnea is a 50% reduction in airflow for 10 seconds or more, usually associated with a fall in blood oxygen saturation. The Apnea Index (AI) is the number of apneic episodes per hour of sleep. The total number of apneic and hypoapneic episodes per hour of sleep is referred to as the ApneaHypopnea Index (AHI) or the RespiratoryDisturbance Index (RDI). OSA is still a poorly recognized medical condition that affects approximately 4% and 2% of the middle aged male and female population, respectively. The medical ramifications of this condition are significant, may be life threatening for adults and has also been linked to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Automatic Detection of Whole Night Snoring Events Using Non-Contact Microphone

OBJECTIVE Although awareness of sleep disorders is increasing, limited information is available on whole night detection of snoring. Our study aimed to develop and validate a robust, high performance, and sensitive whole-night snore detector based on non-contact technology. DESIGN Sounds during polysomnography (PSG) were recorded using a directional condenser microphone placed 1 m above the b...

Energy Types of Snoring Sounds in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome: A Preliminary Observation

BACKGROUND Annoying snore is the principle symptom and problem in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). However, investigation has been hampered by the complex snoring sound analyses. OBJECTIVE This study was aimed to investigate the energy types of the full-night snoring sounds in patients with OSAS. PATIENTS AND METHOD Twenty male OSAS patients underwent snoring sound recording through...

A Dual Source-Filter Model of Snore Audio for Snorer Group Classification

Snoring is a common symptom of serious chronic disease known as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Knowledge about the location of obstruction site (VVelum, OOropharyngeal lateral walls, T-Tongue, E-Epiglottis) in the upper airways is necessary for proper surgical treatment. In this paper we propose a dual source-filter model similar to the source-filter model of speech to approximate the generatio...

In patients with mild sleep apnea, conservative treat...

Changes in quality of life and respiratory disturbance after extended uvulopalatal flap surgery in patients with obstructive sleep apnea.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the subjective and objective outcomes of extended uvulopalatal flap (EUPF) surgery in patients with obstructive sleep apnea. DESIGN Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), Snore Outcomes Survey (SOS), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), and polysomnography were performed preoperatively and then 6 months postoperatively. SETTING Tertiary care, sleep...
